Learning new things all the time: for instance. The human body depending on age, height & weight will burn a certain number of calories just by being alive. There are calculators for that and mine based on 2 sites will burn on average 2500 Cal per day. So I start my day off with -2500. If I consume only 2500 per day I will maintain my current weight. But I can not do ANYTHING PHYSICAL either.
If I consume 2000 per day I will then be at -500 per day and will slowly over time lose weight. It takes approx -3500 Cal to lose 1 lb. So at that rate I would lose approx 1lb in 7 days. That is with zero exercise.
When you really count the calories you will find if you are honest it is very easy to get over 2000 per day real fast. Count your coffee creamer, a soft drink, and one candy bar and next thing you know – WOW. Forget the Whopper or McDonalds.
Today alone I watch everything and I was over 2000 calories. But if you exercise, walk, lift weights that goes into the cal burn column. The more you consume – the more you must burn to lose weight.
We just completed day 4 of our gym plan. #1 upper, #2 lower, #3 middle, #4 full body. Not sure what number of calories that burns. I know it depends on each person.
Basic math means you must consume calories or you will die. If you consume more than you burn – you will gain weight. (NOTE: Some weight gain is good if you are adding muscle) but if you are gaining fat that is not good.
When someone says a pound of fat weighs more than a pound of muscle, say nothing for a second or two and then say NO IT DOES NOT! A pound of fat weighs the exact same thing as a pound of muscle and the same as a pound of feathers and the same as a pound of lead. The difference is the space each items takes up because of the density or mass.
There are many other factors such as cholesterol, sugar, carbs, etc. They said years ago cut out all fat. They find that you need some fat. A NO FAT intake can cause problems. But they also are finding that cutting out sugar is very good for you body. Many things in moderation. All you vegetarians remember you need protein.
Your body is like a old (or new) steam engine. Not enough coal being put into the fire and the fire dies down and the engine stops. Too much coal put into the fire and pretty soon the coal is spilling out onto the floor, fall over the sides and piling up where you need to stand and operate the engine. But maintaining a constant, even flow and the engine will continue down the tracks. Want to show the engine, slow the flow of coal. Want to speed up then you need to start throwing some coal into the fire.
Just sharing some of my thoughts on weight loss. And NO! I am not trying to be some expert. Just thinking and sharing.
